BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very popular cosmetic treatment for the face. BOTOX® is designed to reduce facial lines caused by overactive muscles. BOTOX® is safe and effective and is a non-surgical procedure, with minimal risk and side effects. Dr. Lissauer has used BOTOX® extensively since 1997.
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a purified protein that blocks the muscles from contracting. It only affects the areas of the face where it is directly placed. BOTOX® has been used safely in cosmetic applications for over 15 years and in non-cosmetic uses for over 25 years. BOTOX® was approved by the FDA for facial wrinkles in 2002. BOTOX®, is a name-brand product that is highly regulated by the Allergan company and the FDA.
Why BOTOX® for Facial Wrinkles?
Dynamic facial wrinkles are caused by contractions of the muscles of the face when you express emotions. These lines and wrinkles can become more pronounced with frequent expressions of emotion through facial expressions. These lines and wrinkles may be misinterpreted as anxiety, anger or aging. Fillers can plump up these areas and surgical procedures such as a brow lift and blepharoplasty can tighten the skin and muscles around these lines. Botox, however, addresses the underlying muscle pull, which deepens the facial wrinkles. This makes BOTOX® the best treatment for dynamic facial lines from the expressive muscles of the face.
What areas of the face can BOTOX® treat?
- Smile lines at outer corners of the eyes or crow’s feet
- Deep furrows between the eyebrows or glabellar folds
- Deep wrinkles in the forehead
- Fine wrinkles under the eyes
- Fine lines around the lips
- Dimpling of the chin from overactive muscles
- Drooping of the corners of the mouth
Can BOTOX® be used for Facial Shaping?
Dr. Lissauer commonly uses BOTOX® for more than just treating wrinkles. It is also very useful for facial shaping. BOTOX@ can raise or lower the eyebrows to enhance your youthful appearance and can mimic a brow lift without surgery. BOTOX® is also an excellent complimentary procedure to overall facial rejuvenation. It can be used alone or in combination with facial fillers, skin care, laser resurfacing or surgery. Botox is very popular because complications are rare and it gives a very reproducible natural result.
How is BOTOX® used?
BOTOX® treatments have become more comfortable by using the thinnest needles available. The effects of BOTOX® last from 3 to 5 months. Patients may repeat BOTOX® treatments when it fully wears off. However, Dr. Lissauer recommends to re-treat the face with BOTOX® as soon as the muscles just begin to remain movement. Not allowing the facial muscles to regain “muscle memory” thereby keeping the wrinkles from returning. After a number of re-treatments in this manner the interval between treatments may become longer with better results.
